The use of marijuana has become a growing issue in the Ghanaian community with a lot of prominent people calling for legalization. Notably among them are the late UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and Ghanaian Actor John Dumelo. It is however unclear whether they are championing the medicinal use of marijuana or supporting it for mere smoking purposes.
John Asogonnde otherwise known as John Hermit is a former record label executive who is currently aspiring to become one of Ghana’s youngest lawmakers in the 2020 general elections. He recently made a shocking revelation about his addiction to marijuana on his social media platforms stating that he was addicted to the drug for several years but has finally realized the terrible effects of smoking the herb leading to his decision to quit once and for all. He culled his experience together into a book titled “Breaking Up With Mary Jane” which he hopes will be able to inspire other smokers to quit as well.
Read the post below.
” I’ve been a chronic smoker for about six (6) years. I finally took a bold step to let go of Marijuana which in this book has been referred to as a lady named Mary Jane. I was obsessed with her, I loved her and thought she brought me so much joy and happiness. I remember swearing I was going to smoke for the rest of my life. Gratefully, it’s a different story now. Marijuana isn’t really good for our wellbeing. I hope this book is able to inspire someone and help them abandon our favorite friend and lover Mary Jane. Although quitting marijuana use may seem impossible, I wish to help people understand they can do it without necessarily compromising their contemporary litestyle.
Launching “Breaking Up With Mary Jane” on my birthday – Friday 26th April “You can follow him via his social media platforms @iamjohnhermit on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more updates on this great book.

“Ghanaians Need Remunerative Institutions Not A Cathedral. – Jamaican Dancehall Artiste, Mr. Vegas
Jamaican born Reggae/Dancehall recording and performing artiste, Clifford Smith professionally known as Mr. Vegas has expressed exasperation and rancour in the government of Ghana's priority of building a National Cathedral in a country that lacks financially rewarding; lucrative institutions.
According to the Jamaican singjay, the president of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his governing New Patriotric Party can easily invest the tax payers' money in establishing educational institution designed to provide learning spaces and learning environments for the teaching of students (or "pupils") under the direction of teachers.
He noted that, persons enrolled in a school or other educational institution and attends classes in a course to attain the appropriate level of mastery of a subject under the guidance of an instructor, including the ordinary Ghanaian are vulnerable to achieving their set goals as they're not exposed to life comforting institutions and suitable financial backgrounds.
Earlier, the Akufo-Addo led administration came under a barrage of public criticisms after it emerged that several buildings including the Scholarship Secretariate, Passport Office at Ridge and nine bungalows occupied by Appeals Court Judges are to be demolished as government is set to begin the construction of the House of Prayer.
The National Cathedral of Ghana is a planned interdenominational Christian cathedral scheduled to be built in Accra, the nation's capital, as part of Ghana's 60th anniversary celebrations. The design for the cathedral was unveiled by the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, in March 2018.
According to the President, he promised God a National Cathedral should he became the president of Ghana, and will redeem that pledge. The cathedral will have an auditorium capable of seating 5,000 as well as the requisite chapels, and a baptistery. The site will also house a music school, an art gallery, and a museum dedicated to the Bible.
The design of the cathedral reflects the art and culture of Ghanaian ethic groups; the high pitched and staggered roof is reminiscent of Akan inspired architecture and the facade will be concave and decorated with timber in imitation of Ashanti royal stools. The architect for the project is the British-Ghanaian architect David Adjaye, who also designed the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Meanwhile, in a Youtube video sighted by www.georgebritton.com, "The Voices Of Sweet Jamaica" crooner believes, President Nana Akufo-Addo can build more remunerative and profitable institution, including a building in which objects of historical, scientific, artistic, or cultural interest are stored and exhibited; museum and has the potential of positively selling Ghana, Africans and also attract investors to alleviate the country from it current economical challenges and crisis.
According to him, Akufo-Addo’s decision to build a planned interdenominational Christian cathedral or the principal church of a diocese is a misplaced priority and a great disrespect to the natives and the African diaspora who need primitive institutions that will be a stepping stone to success and educational enlightenment.
He revealed that, a historical museum about Africans who were enslaved by Europeans can be established, that will enable those living in the diaspora, with no doubt have a reason to return and learn about Ghana’s rich culture as this year has been recognized as the "Year of Return", an event set to commemorate this quarter-centenary since the anchoring of the first slave ship in Jamestown, Virginia.
Mr. Vegas urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the his New Patriotic Government to eliminate the national cathedral idea and focus on making Ghana better place to live for the indigenous citizens and those living in the diaspora by investing the country's resources in projects that will yield healthy and edible fruits.
