VGMA19: Samini Reincarnated And Made The Event Sane.

Published

on

Regardless of last weekend’s skirmishes at the #VGMA20 occasion, Samini came through as the melting ice to restore peace and sanity with his high class live band performance, maturity, stage mastery and finesse.

Before Samini’s performance on the night, there had been previous performances from Efya, Sarkodie, Kula and others who rocked the stage as well; but Samini raised the bar very high that he’s still on the lips of many, hours after the show.

This followed the much publicized altercation from 2 of Ghana’s Music Icons, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, some moments earlier before his (Samini’s) set.

The annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) is an occasion that celebrates Ghanaian music and its crooners and this year’s was supposed to be the most exciting as it marked the 20th anniversary of the awards, but it was marred with the abrupt melee.

Nonetheless, the show went on with Samini melting hearts and brought smiles to many patrons and viewers watching from home and online.

As an experienced performer and a man of peace who has been in the industry for years (during his performance during the VGMA Experience Concert — the weekend before — on Saturday, May 11, at the Independence Square), Samini called on his fellow artistes to allow unity reign amongst them since that is the only thing to make the industry grow.

Born Emmanuel Andrews Samini, he is also referred to many as “African Bob Marley”; Samini put in all efforts with ease and jammed the place to keep the remaining audience engaged and happy.

His showmanship on the night was a perfect liaison that cemented attempts by Charter House to restore calm at the occasion. One thing you can’t take away from the LIVING LEGEND, Samini, who was enskinned few months ago is his high sense of maturity and class towards any horrid situation around him on the job, be it on stage, on interviews or in the studio with his lyrical compositions and delivery.

Samini remains a ‘scarce soul’ in Ghana’s music history and will continue to be loved and remembered not only for his craft but helping other acts hone their craft into mainstream – notable amongst the talents that went through his tutelage into mainstream are Mugeez (of R2Bees), Stonebwoy, Kaakie and Kofi Kinaata.

Deon Boakye and Senario are also budding acts under his arm he supports and is helping push to the top as well. Samini has won several local and international awards of great reverence such as MOBO, MTV, Channel O, IRAWMA, just to name a few. He has won several plaques at the VGMAs and was “Artiste Of The Year” at Ghana Music Awards 2007.

He has shared many noble stages, both home across the world with Damian Marley, Shaggy, Keri Hilson, Busy Signal, Mavado. Demarco, 2Face, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, just to name a few. His collaborations with Steel Pulse, Etana, Rocky Dawuni, Busy Signal and Anthony Bare some of the works he is well respected for with at least 2 decades of honing his craft and selling it to the world.

Samini is signed to Africa 1 Media in Ghana, since 2017; a great Team he is very proud of and happy to work with anytime. You can connect with Samini on social media via his connects below:

Matthew Mensah To Speak At 2019 Breaking Down Borders Africa Youth Summit.

Published

on

Multiple award-winning Ghanaian philanthropist, PR Strategist and business man, Matthew Mensah has been invited as a speaker for the 3rd edition of the Breaking Down Borders Africa Youth Summit which will be hosted in Johannesburg.

As the founder of Health PR, Ambassador of Tourism Ghana and GQ’S Best dressed Man in Africa, Matthew will join other speakers from across Africa for the pan-African annual conference for youth leaders from across the continent which will be hosted from 23 – 24 May 2019.

The Summit, hosted under the theme ‘Reclaim Africa’ – is described by organisers as a call to action for young people to work towards an Africa they desire to be a part of. The three day gathering will encourage youth participation in governance, social change and the economy through topics that impart knowledge, engage thought and inspire action. Delegates of the Summit range from young leaders from diverse backgrounds such as media, politics, academia and business – with the aim of driving inter-country relations and collaborations.

“Since its inception two years ago the Breaking Down Borders Africa Youth summit has hosted over 200 young leaders representing 18 African countries. This has created a web of collaborations and partnerships across various sectors, movements and communities. As a platform the summit presents an opportunity for young people to connect, learn and create in concert around pertinent areas of leadership, development and how we can right the future of the kind of Africa we want to exist in.” says Founder Paul Modjadji.

The organisers announced in March that this year’s Summit would be the last one to be hosted in South Africa. This would mean that the next Summit, to be hosted in 2020, would be hosted in another African country. The Summit, which not only brings young people together, also celebrates Africa day and month – by engaging in conversations which are led by and serve young people.

The Breaking Down Borders Africa Initiative is a multi-platform initiative that includes education, empowerment drives as well as the conference. Founded by The Leaders Who Dare To Dream Foundation and led by a collective of youth social entrepreneurs, the initiative undertakes efforts to connect African youth through dialogue and conferencing, workshops and arts programmes. Through various partnerships with global NGO’s, government and the private sector, the Conference has driven robust conversation, given a platform for youth thought leadership and the building of networks among African youth in social and commercial entrepreneurship.

Vodafone Promises ‘Solid Support’ For Ghana Music Despite ‘Unfortunate’ VGMA Brawl.

Published

on

Title sponsor of the Ghana Music Awards, Vodafone, has said it will continue supporting the music industry despite a scuffle between two rival artistes on Saturday.

The telco giant said in a statement Sunday that although the scuffle that ensued on stage is regrettable, it acknowledges that a large number of players in the industry do not subscribe to such conduct.

“For now, our passion for music and for the industry remains solid. We look forward to an exciting future for the industry,” Vodafone Ghana said in the release.

The telecoms company did not, however, state expressly its continued support for the annual Ghana Music Awards organised by Charterhouse.

Rival reggae and dancehall artistes, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, were on Sunday invited by the police over the violent commotion at the 20th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).

Camps of the two rival artistes clashed on stage while Stonebwoy was about to give a speech after winning the coveted Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year at the music awards last night.

The brawl started when Shatta Wale (Charles Nii Armah Mensah) walked up to the stage with his multitude of fans while Stonebwoy was about to give a speech for the award.

Although some have said the My Level hitmaker climbed up the stage with his fans to congratulate Stonebwoy for the award, others say they were there to heckle Stonebwoy.

The confusion that ensued was witnessed by millions of Ghanaians watching the show.

Stonebwoy, known in private life as Livingstone Etse Satekla, also pulled a gun on stage in what some believe he did in self-defence.

Many patrons at the event at the Accra International Conference Centre feared the sight of the gun could have caused a stampede.

One person has been arrested on suspicion of using a dangerous pepper spray during the brawl.

Following the incident, there were fears corporate Ghana would be pushed further away from supporting showbiz.

Vodafone Ghana in the release further stated that, as a responsible organisation, it is against all acts of violence no matter the circumstances.

“We will support any review process of the incident to ensure that our commitment to recognise and celebrate achievement and success in the music industry is not compromised,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the event organisers have also condemned the brawl.

In a statement published below Charterhouse apologised to Vodafone Ghana and other sponsors for the incident.

“Being a special edition of the annual ceremony, months of planning had gone into the giving the world a breath-taking. Sadly, however, we were unable to give the full experience we had hoped to give as a result of this breach,” the statement from Charterhouse said.
