Published

on

Bronx, NY, June 21, 2018: “Africa to the World” is a tagline often used to encapsulate a new wave of international interest in all things African. From the Afrocentric imagery in the critically acclaimed Black Panther and the Wakanda phenomenon, to African artists reaching new platforms and streaming records, the world’s eye is on Africa.

On the western coast of Africa, Ghana, continues to be a country that stands at the forefront of entertainment industry. Products of this industry such as Kwesi Arthur are crossing international borders via their music. Arthur, a Ghanaian rapper, is nominated for a BET award this year. The Black Entertainment Awards nomination is representative of the fan base Ghanaian artists have in the United States, but there is also an award show that sheds light upon Ghanaian artists making their mark on American soil.

On the evening of June 30th the Schomburg Center in Harlem New York City will host Ghana’s best and brightest. Tickets are available gea2018.eventbrite.com , but not for long! The Ghanaian Entertainment Awards USA (GEA USA), is a platform that uplifts, promotes, and celebrates people who have heavily impacted Ghanaians in the entertainment industry.

The GEA USA differentiates itself from the award show hosted in Ghana by creating categories specifically for Ghanaians in the United States, Canada, and the diaspora.

In only its second year of operation the GEA USA is gearing up to be even bigger and better. The Ghanaian entertainment awards USA, hosted by decorated actor, and Best Actor nominee, Chris Attoh will be an event to remember. Thirty seven categories showcase multiple facets of the Ghanaian Entertainment world. There are also categories that include Nigerians, South Africans, and peoples from other cultures who have had a profound impact on the Ghanaian Entertainment community this past year; proving that even with different ethnic backgrounds we all service a common goal.
