Say Hi To Ama; The Psychologist Working As A Fashion Designer.

Tarsha Ama Arkoh is a self-taught fashion designer, but a trained psychologist who is currently doubling as the founder of Jamatarsh Designs.   

The July 24th born in West Africa, Ghana at age 10 joined her parents in the United States. In May 2011 she graduated from Shaw junior high school in Philadelphia and from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor of science in psychology in May 2015.

After graduating from Penn State University. Tarsha landed a job as a case manager and while she worked full-time, she enrolled in a masters program at Wilmington University to obtain a degree in Business Administration. Along the line, she discovered her talent and passion for designing. Her masters was then put on hold to follow her dreams of becoming a fashion designer which birth “Jamatarsh”.  

Tarsha realizing her undying love for creating and sketching made it a point to scratch designs every day. She hand-crafted her own garments and made it a point to be the center of attention every Sunday when she attended church.  

“Jamatarsh designs, customize unique designs that caters for Men, Women, and kids in all sizes and shapes. Jamatarsh is a ready-to-wear bold print clothing line which offers quality, trendy African and American inspired fashion at affordable prices. Jamatarsh loves creating one of a kind statement pieces that focuses on our clients shape, size and personalities. Our designs are constructed to bring out the confidence in all of our clients worldwide.” She shared with Kwesi Omega in an interview.

Warm Their Feet (WTF); A Ghanaian Desert Boot Brand Makes Grand Entry.

Ghanaian young and  enthused entrepreneur, Noel Nutsugah and partners, the wheels propelling change and inspiring hope with the ”Warm Their Feet” foundation opens up a showroom to shore up their vision to sell shoes and to put shoes on the feet of the deprived Ghanaian Child. 

In a brief meeting with the press yesterday, 18th January 2019 at their newly opened showroom at Madina - Rawlings circle. Noel during his address detailed their vision, mission, the durability of the product, the make and types as well as the clientele base, they aspire to serve and how percentages from proceeds of sales go to lighten up the burden of walking barefoot to school, a phenomenon which is common in the deprived areas of Ghana. 

”Our fine and classy desert boot is handmade in Ghana by WTF, a solely owned Ghanaian shoe brand. It comes in a high-quality suede leather made from the underside skin of exotic animals which makes it rugged and able to withstand hard-handed abuse.”

He continued touching on the features, ”It features a fluffy inner lining which is spread within the shoe and provides a comfortable feel to the foot. The soles are generally made from recycled gum that prevents wear and tear. Our unisex boots present a great choice between casual and formal wear.” 

The touching part of the presentation made by the young CEO was when he made mention of how the company is driven by the edge to lend a hand to the less privileged in society. 

”To maximize the impact of our enterprise on the community, we have put together a charity arm to the _WTF_ brand that focuses on identifying social problems, especially in the area if education and mobilizing funds to help solve these problems. We are activating the charity initiative fully this year with the first community of barefooted-school-going children identified in Brafo Yaw in the Central Region for this purpose. It is our aim to be able to do more to ensure that we are warming the feet of as many people as we can.” Shared by Noel elaborating on the foregoing statement. 

In rounding up, he uncloaks the future expectations to push their frontiers to cover many more regions and give people access not only to their product but the benefit of their social impact.

Ćharlotte Prive, a go to in the fashion space readies to host the second annual ‘My Christmas Wish’ Holiday Premier Fashion Show on the 15th Of December 2018. The show after its debut last year comes off this year at the Octagon where there will be a ready-to-wear, runway event showcasing the “wish list” of Charlotte Prive looks for the holiday season. Select looks will be available for purchase on-site during the event. Ćharlotte Prive will also be donating a percentage of proceeds from the event to charity, this will be going towards educational and creative supplies for underprivileged children in society. Young Ghanaian Ladies To Benefit From Shatta Michy’s Hair Styling Masterclass

We live in a world where women are hardly given equal opportunities as men, but when you have a few good women who already have the platform and stretch out their hands to other women so they can also join them at the top, then you know the world isn’t bad after all.  Diamond Michelle Gbagonah a.k.a Shatta Michy has proven to the world that she believes in empowering her fellow young women. She put together a program dubbed ‘Shatta Michy Hairstyling Masterclass in collaboration with Kush By Taylar’ that gave young women the opportunity to learn a skill which they can benefit from financially for life. On Saturday, about 20 young women converged at the Airport View hotel to attend an exclusive hair styling master class hosted by Shatta Michy. She partnered with renowned and celebrity hairstylist Kush by Taylar who is behind some of the most iconic hairstyles seen and rocked on the red carpet by celebrities like Selly Galley, Yvonne Okoro, Zynell Zuh, Serwaa Amihere, Berla Mundi and even Shatta Michy. The hairstyling master class was divided into four segments and spanned over 7 hours. Speaking to Kush by Taylar, he reiterated that everybody expected to be at the program was available and those targeted  were the ones who were already into hairstyling but still needed guidelines and a few tips to become professionals.  She also said ‘this is something that has never really happened before, especially when it’s a good way of empowering women and helping them acquire a skill that will fetch them money. Even a 9 year old girl was there. She could style hair already, but wasn’t a professional so the program helped her acquire the needed skill to better her trade and also get her a certificate’. Shatta Michy also gave the ladies tips on how to be successful entrepreneurs and how they could successfully run their own business.  Shatta Michy and Kush by Taylar plan to extend the hairstyling masterclass to other regions and even add other skills like ‘making up’ to it so women across Ghana can be empowered. Nana Ama Benson, a 23-year-old graduate of University Ghana Nursing School who represented the Central Region has been crowned Miss Ghana 2018. She beat nine other beautiful contestants in the highly competitive event on Saturday evening to win the coveted title of the Miss Ghana 2018 contest which was held at the plush Accra Marriot Hotel in an atmosphere of splendour. She also won Beauty with a Purpose, Most Disciplined , Miss Bikini and Miss Eloquence Awards during the evening. She took home the Miss Ghana crown, a Mahindra KUV 100 official car and also has an opportunity to represent Ghana at the Miss World Pageant 2018 . She will also be volunteering with Exclusive Events Ghana and Miss Ghana Foundation for a period of one year as well as enjoy a platinum gym membership at the ultra modern Pippa's Health Centre in Accra. Nana Ama is entitled to products from Samsung/Electroland and other sponsors aside a monthly allowance of 1000gh among other prices. Northern Region delegate, Laila Issaka who is also a 24-year -old Accounting graduate of Koforidua Technical University and 22-year-old graduate of Accra Polytechnic, Elizabeth Mary Maclean who also represented the Western Region came the first and second runners up respectively. They both received Hyundai Grande i10 official cars each and will also be volunteering with the Exclusive Events Ghana and Miss Ghana Foundation for a year among other prizes. The 2018 Miss Ghana pageant was hosted by Abeiku Santana with support from Josephine Aryitey, Miss Ghana 2013 top ten finalist. It was attended by a number of influential personalities including Akumaa Mama Zimbi, Fred Nuamah, Okyeame Kwame, Ignace, Obuor, Moesha Boduong, Shatta Michy and a host of others. There were interesting performance by ace saxophonist Steve Bedi and Wendy Shay.
