On Wendy Shay Slaming MzGee; The Rights And The Wrongs.

Published

on

In the early hours of yesterday, a video surfaced  online in which Ruff Town Records signee Wendy Shay was seen categorizing a question asked by MzGee of Joy news as dumb.

Wendy Shay during an interview just after her performance at the BF Suma concert over the weekend slammed her interviewer in an attempt to avoid the follow up question, ”Who is Wendy Shay”.

She responded, ”Who am I, as Who is Wendy Shay?” She threw the question back to the host and continued, “can we cut the conversation, this is a dumb question isn’t?” while she looked around in shock and disbelief.

MzGee then asked, ”sorry?”, she responded, ” I don’t want to do the interview anymore, I’m already…..” making gestures of tiredness.

The now viral video has picked the interest of both media persons and non-media persons and the conversation now is, was she right to tag the question dumb? And was MzGee right with her conduct in that context?

Let’s get into the issues surrounding the unfortunate incident. Wendy Shay just got off stage and adrenaline’s are high, she was expecting a praise for her energetic performance and was not in the mood for any sort of criticism or a question that borders on her personality and style which has been over dragged she feels.

The response of Wendy Shay to the question came from the angle that, “I’m tired of the Ghanaian media”,  you people always say bad things about me, “Wendy Shay has no talent, she can’t even sing, she is a bad performer, she is a forced clone of Ebony and oh, she will not survive.” Recently, an alleged tape of her and Bullet caught in bed sufficed online only for us to realize it was for her new song the boy is mine featuring Eno. But trust me she was bashed and dragged “papa.”

Considering how she has been dragged and denigrated, she feels it’s time to stand up and show Ghanaians who underestimate her, she is not that soft but trust me that was a bad platform and time – yes she was wrong responding as such.

I know we were expecting her to give us her autobiography or better still an oral essay of herself, that’s easy right.?

Notwithstanding, truth be told, some hosts can be very annoying, but she should have been smart enough to know MzGee was on an agenda with that question to expose her ignorance and she fell for it.

In as much as she was wrong for asking the question as at that particular time, the fact is she was doing her job and she needs the news to go, that’s what she gets paid for at the end of the month.

I know Wendy may soon come out to render an open apology for her conduct to avoid being blacklisted by the Multimedia group looking at their mileage, but I think it’s right for MzGee as a person to also say sorry to a sister.

Her question was not wrong nor dumb, but the  time she asked that question makes it a question that will inconvenience any hyped up performer.

Wendy’s team on the spot should have swiftly moved in to rectify the situation, render an apology and plead for a retake of the interview and the video deleted. This could have saved the young ladies career.

Let’s going forward do well to project the good works of our brothers and sisters than their negative and flaws.

How to Make Your Home Feel Warm for House Guests.

  1. Guest Room

See what you love about a great hotel, that might include an duvets, spare hangers, pillows etc. Bonus points for bottled water, a box of chocolates or mints, and a note with your Wi-Fi password. To prevent guests from stumbling over suitcases, keep a luggage rack in the guest room. And in your guest bath, “always, always set out extra toilet paper and a plunger, because there’s nothing more awkward than having to ask,” Joanna Goddard of Cupofjo.com says. An extra-thoughtful touch: Keep a stockpile of just-in-case medications (ibuprofen, indigestion pills) and bandages, plus a sewing kit for garment emergencies.

  1. Dinning Room

Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs of Food52 suggest buying plain linen fabric that’s 10 inches longer than each side of the surface. Wash and dry it to create intentional frays along the cut edges. As you set the table, don’t sweat it if you don’t have enough matching china, says Huh. Either mix and match two sets evenly (the salad plate from one set with the dinner plate from another) or disperse many mismatched pieces throughout the table, sticking with a consistent color palette to keep it looking uniform. Lay out serving dishes the night before, each labeled with a sticky note with the menu item you plan to serve in it. Hesser and Stubbs divide each dish into two serving platters or bowls so everyone at the table can have easy access.

  1. Kitchen

A self-service buffet keeps you from playing short-order cook. For breakfast, make and refrigerate mixtures of pancakes a day or two before guests arrive; make sure to have everything in stock from teabags to ketchup. Furnish with a coffee and tea area stocked with mugs, spoons, and sweeteners. And for off-hours nibbling, a basket in the pantry or fridge labeled “Eat me” takes the guesswork out of what’s fair game to munch on during the day and also makes it fun.

GTA, ATWAG Hold Workshop For Tourism Writers.

Published

on

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in collaboration with the Arts and Tourism Writers of Ghana (ATWAG) yesterday held a sensitisation workshop for travel and tourism writers in Accra.

The programme, held at the Accra Tourist Information Centre, gave the writers an insight into the operations of the Ghana Tourism Authority.

The workshop was on the theme, “The Role of ATWAG in Ghana’s tourism drive”‘.

In his address, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA)
Mr Akwasi Agyeman expressed his excitement about the engagement and asked that the two bodies worked together more regularly to ensure growth in the tourism sector.

“There are suggestions that we believe will come from ATWAG members on how to do our work better and how we can together work to improve the industry,” he said.

He also said his institution was planning on organising familiarisation trips for ATWAG members to tourist sites in the country to enable them to have first-hand information and also experience the tourism products that the nation has to offer.

Officers from the GTA including Mr. Ekow Sampson (Acting DED Operations), Mrs. Roberta Dawson Amoah (Director, Marketing), Mr. Ben Anane Nsiah (Director, Planning, Development and Investment) and Mr. Alex Boakye (Director, Standards and Quality Assurance) took turns to explain the various components of the authority’s operations and also answered questions from the writers.

Mr William Asiedu, the President of the Arts and Tourism Writers Association expressed the association’s readiness to help develop and promote the tourism industry.

“ATWAG is ready to help move this industry forward. We are not interested in what your political colour is. We are a professional group of journalists who are interested in the business of tourism, arts and culture and to some extent, chieftaincy affairs,” he noted.

He further stated that one of the biggest challenges of the association was the way some writers use technology, which gives room for hastily done works to be published. He was however hopeful that with the necessary education, the situation would change for the better.

A tourism expert and CEO of Africa Tourism Partners, South Africa, Mr. Kwakye Donkor challenged the Ghanaian media to work with the tourism authorities to promote the country positively. He noted that all the major media organisations, including CNN and BBC do not broadcast negative news to discourage people from visiting their country and that is the attitude the Ghanaian media should have in helping promote the country.

The Arts and Tourism Writers Association of Ghana, as part of its capacity-building programmes has lined up activities to help its members understand the operations of the various institutions in the industry.

In December last year, ATWAG organised a masterclass hosted by Ghanaian musician of international repute, Wiyaala, and her manager, Mr John Sherren to throw light on how best musicians and arts writers could work together for their mutual benefits.

The grateful Edem through it all kept hope alive even with no hopes of how the offing will turn out to be.
