Olympian Akwasi Frimpong Launches Clothing Line FRIMPONG SPORTSWEAR.

Published

on

Not everyone is a world-class athlete, but now everyone can dress like one.

Akwasi Frimpong, Ghana’s first Skeleton Olympian and just the second Winter Olympian in the country’s history, is proud to announce the Frimpong clothing line.

The clothing line accessible online at shop.Frimpong.comuses traditional Ghanaian patterns that represent the roots and upbringing of Akwasi Frimpong. It allows fans to enjoy comfortable and high-quality clothing that uses the latest sporting technology.

Those who purchase from the line also get to show their support for Akwasi as he prepares for the Winter Olympics of Beijing 2022 where he will carry the hopes and aspirations of the entire continent of Africa in what his team has termed online as #HopeOfABillion.

The idea for the clothing line came from a lack of clothing sponsorships and the need to pay for training and competition costs, “so everyone who buys the clothing will be helping Akwasi achieve his goal of stepping onto the medal podium and being the Hope of a Billion underdogs who were told they could not achieve their dreams,” said team Akwasi Frimpong.

Fans can visit the website shop.Frimpong.com and order their Frimpong Sportswear for men and women. Selections include Hope of a Billion items as well.

Akwasi’s journey to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics is a long one, but you can now become a part of it! For more information send email to [email protected].

Photos: Ghanaian Watchmaker Launches Global Standard Watch Brand.

Published

on

Caveman watches, a wholly owned Ghanaian watch manufacturing company launches on 12/12/18. Speaking with the CEO of Caveman and TimepieceGh, Mr Anthony Dzamefe, the recently awarded Emerging Youth Innovator at Ghana Youth Event Awards 2018, he said he chose to launch CAVEMAN on 12/12/18 because not only is it his birthday but also because the journey to get here have been filled with adversity. He therefore considers the launch as a gift to himself and to all Ghanaians and also as a reminder and assurance that if you want to, you can.

Before Caveman, there was TimepieceGh, which Mr Dzamefe started in 2015, with just GHC50. He started this company because he wanted to buy a watch and it was so expensive, but rather than just complain about how much the watch cost, it birthed a curiosity in him to delve deeper into what made quality watches so special and expensive, this led to an idea at the back of his mind that one day he will love to make watches of his own. He realized that he needed to start from somewhere though, so he begun by doing the unglamorous things, like hawking watches at car parks and the mall and in front of offices etc.

One major thing Mr Dzamefe noticed during this time was the fact that all the watches he was selling, none was manufactured in Africa nor owned by Africans, so after settling in a shop in 2017/2018, he took the next step and enrolled in an online Swiss watch making course. This led to him making handmade leather straps and also the repairing of broken-down watches from there he started making wall clocks from discarded wood. He affectionately named the clocks WOODPERKER, which has all led to 12/12/18, the unveiling of CAVEMAN.

Why CAVEMAN though? Why not something more sophisticated like all other watches? According to Mr Anthony he drew and still draws a lot of inspiration from sophisticated originality, durability, and natures presence in the works of the prehistoric caveman, and therefore decided to build a brand that will have these values and be a constant reminder for us to be limitless and achievers’ whiles keeping in touch with our origins. In short, a brand that will be known for its hand made durability and will deliver everything it promises.

CAVEMAN watches will start selling on 12/12/18, you can visit their website www.cavemanwatches.com or their social media pages on Facebook and Instagram: cavemanwatches to place your orders. The amazing part is you only make payment on delivery after carefully inspecting the product to ensure its what you ordered for.

If you want to be remembered, then your wrist need a CAVEMAN watch, CAVEMAN, BE REMEMBERED.

KIKOROMEO Takes Lead At Lagos Fashion Week 2018 With New Creative Director: Iona McCreath In Tow!

Published

on

It was a new generation takeover as the latest SS2019 KIKOROMEO collection on Thursday 25th Oct 2018 at Day 1 of Lagos Fashion Week, unveiling its new creative director of brand: Iona McCreath. The collection has been featured in Elle USA’s top 10 from Lagos Fashion Week .

Iona, who has apprenticed with Ann McCreath – Founder of KikoRomeo: her mother’s fashion business since birth, took the bow as she presented the brand’s latest collection. Now co-designing with her mother, she is taking the lead on the silhouettes, while her mother works on the textiles and cutting. To celebrate this new way of working they chose baptism by fire in presenting at Lagos Fashion Week, the most influential platform in Africa, pioneered by Omoyemi Akerele .

Speaking about her experience Iona said “Lagos is very influential around Africa and acts as a voice of Africa to the world. When people see Africa the first thing they see or hear is Nigerian. That means being able to integrate within the Nigerian market is strategic. It is also very exciting, because of the vibrant entertainment scene, which has helped contemporary arts and culture develop to be at the heart of the economy. Nigerians love fashion and the collection has been very well received.”

The KIKOROMEO SS2019 collection consisted of 28 looks, 5 women and 23 men. The colours and contrasting textures drew inspiration from the places where oceans meet sands all around the African continent. Filled with golden browns to slate greys, accented with dusty beiges and sunshine yellows, with shades of marine blue that trail through all pieces. The brand’s signature overalls aka jumpers were presented for men and women in a variety of tie dyed, batiked and drip painted variations. These are already a hot favourite of artist Blinky Bill , whose latest beats hit the air as the models paced the runway. Other key items were the hand painted tunics, beautifully cut pants and an adire kilt. The collection was accessorized with fishskin bags, which had been done by accessories brand Baobab for KikoRomeo. The whole look was young and fresh, styled by Moses Ebite .

KIKOROMEO, which means “Adams Apple” in Swahili, is based in Nairobi, Kenya. With over two decades of design heritage, the brand is known for its timeless slow fashion pieces, which transcend fashion trends and show perfection in a fit. Adopting a sustainable approach in everything it does, the brand works with urban and rural Kenyan and refugee artisans, constantly improving the quality of their products, and truly believes and adheres to a Made in Africa policy.

Iona McCreath, who has a degree in Sociology from London School of Economics and a foundation diploma in Art and Design from Central Saint Martin’s.

EDITOR’S NOTES:

Art, music and crafting are at the heart of the KIKOROMEO DNA. The brand is now immersed in reinventing its own textiles, as it did at inception, moving away from commercial prints into hand-dyed and hand painted textiles. These original patterned fabrics are done in collaboration with a young Kenyan textile designer Rachel Wanyutu, as well as the brand founder herself Ann McCreath. Ann has been exploring textile art, influenced by visual artist Onyis Martin amongst others, while Iona McCreath is taking over the creative direction of the clothing.

KIKOROMEO was founded in Kenya in 1996 by fashion designer Ann McCreath. The objective was always to create and sustain a brand, which could last for generations as a true fashion house. Now co-designed by her daughter Iona, it is situated in the Kobo Art Centre, at 523 Riara Rd in Nairobi, Kenya.
