Published

Exclusive Events Ghana, organisers of the Miss Ghana pageant say they have “gladly accepted” the resignation of the winner of the 2017 pageant, Margaret Dery.

The beauty queen, who was crowned October 7 last year at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Accra, revealed that she is no longer interested in holding the office as Ghana’s beauty queen.

Miss Dery, just after eight months as queen has sent an email to the organisers, Exclusive Events Ghana, to formally inform them of her decision.

The organisers in a statement issued on Tuesday, July 31, said they got the news of Margret Dary’s resignation through the media although the 2017 winner had indicated that she has sent the organisers an email.

Exclusive Events Ghana, owned by Inna Mariam Patty, in the statement, noted that contrary to the sharp criticisms the pageant has suffered for some time now.

The pageant has a core mandate of promoting “the culture of discipline, respect for authority, good corporate governance and use the crown to change the lives of the vulnerable and deprived communities.”

According to the organisers, “We did our very best to lead the winners and runners-up of the beauty pageant to live and act in accordance with the major vision.

“That is the more reason why we recently commissioned and donated a water project to the Nabuli Witch Camp in Gushegu in the Northern Region of Ghana. Unfortunately, Margaret Dery never showed up for the programme for reasons best known to her.”

Exclusive Events Ghana stressed that they “are very focused and ever determined to use the Miss Ghana Beauty Pageant to help the poor, needy and the vulnerable in rural areas and deprived communities and absolutely nothing can distract us from this noble journey.”

“We wish Margaret Dery well in her next career and we do pray that she will uphold the ethics of professionalism, respect for contracts as well as show the necessary respect to the new authority she finds herself under,” the statement issued by the Public Affairs Department of Exclusive Events Ghana concluded.

Rihanna & Meghan Markle Have Developed A Secret Friendship.

Published

on

Meghan Markle has a ton of super famous friends. Serena Williams, Priyanka Chopra and Amal Clooney are just three of the Duchess of Sussex's close confidants. Though Meghan does her best to keep her private life, well, private, inevitably some things get leaked to the press. Her blossoming friendship with Rihanna is just one of those things.

Rihanna and Meghan reportedly grew closer when the Umbrella singer relocated to U.K. in order to be closer to her Fenty business and team. "They actually have a lot in common in terms of style and a shared need for total privacy in their lives," a source told Radar Online. "They’ve bumped into each other a few times before Meghan was super famous and have a few mutual acquaintances on the Hollywood social scene who’ve put them in touch again recently."

While Meghan and Rihanna are both busy these days, a (secret) hang out between the two is reportedly imminent. "Meghan is with her baby right now but once she’s back from maternity leave hanging out with Rihanna is high on her list," the source revealed.

It's actually not surprising that Meghan and Rihanna have hit it off, either. Rihanna bonded with Meghan's husband, Prince Harry, when he visited Barbados on official royal business back in 2016. His trip took place right after he started dating Meghan.

Who knows...maybe Rihanna will be invited to baby Archie's christening next month? Maybe she'll even be named as godmother, though many suspect Serena already has that position locked down.

Wiyaala; the unmatched Lioness of Africa.

Published

Wiyaala, which means “the doer” in her local Sissala dialect, is from Funsi, an African village in the Upper West Region of Ghana close to the borders of Burkina Faso and Cote D’Ivoire.

Also known as the “Lioness of Africa”, her music is a fusion of West African folk songs and contemporary Afro-pop informed by traditional West African storytelling.

The second of four sisters and thanks to a musical mother, Wiyaala “dodged” FGM and child marriage, whilst attracting attention as a child entertainer, dancer, artist and athlete, despite growing up in a patriarchal society frequently hostile to artistic growth.

In 2012, she made the long journey to the capital city, Accra, and won the Vodafone Icons Reality Show.

After being “spotted” by Rita Ray of BBC’s Global Beats in 2014, Wiyaala has emerged as one of Ghana’s leading international touring artists performing at top events and festivals all over the world, including the Commonwealth Games 2018 in Australia, WOMAD UK and the Timitar Festival in Morocco.

In 2018 Wiyaala was celebrated by the BBC as one of their African Women of the year.

She has been decorated with a number of awards over the years including: Most Promising Artist on the African Continent (2014), Video of the Year for “Africa” (2015) All Africa Music Awards (Afrima.org), Female Vocalist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year (2015) – Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

Wiyaala designs her own unique stage costumes and has released two albums, “Wiyaala” (2014) and “Sissala Goddess” (December 2018).

She is a committed supporter of the arts in Northern Ghana having created and organized the The Djimba World Music Festival now in its
fourth year.

Wiyaala is an influencer for UNICEF Ghana and fights for the abolition of FGM, Early Child Marriage and the rights of children. She also campaigns against HIV in her community and around the world.
