Okyeame Kwame known in real life as Kwame Nsiah Apau was born on the 17 April 1976.Known as The Rap Doctor, he is one of the most successful musicians our country Ghana has known. He is a Ghanaian musician, songwriter, creative director and entrepreneur.
Not only is he a popular musician, his impeccable sense of fashion and style is eye-catching and definitely worth noting. He is a symbol of African culture and indigenous originality.
He keeps his style clean, classy and engaging with all sorts of African fabrics such as Kente, Waxprint among others.
When it comes to fashion, he is the perfect gentleman putting Ghanian fashion on the international map. He was awarded the Male Celebrity Fashion Icon at the 2016 Ghanan Fashion Awards.
He had his basic education at Anglican Senior High School in Kumasi. He later graduated from Kwame Nkrumah University and graduated as a linguist.He is married with two kids.
He started his music career as a member of the group Akyeame. Later on, He went solo and has since not looked backed releasing hit sings upon hit songs such as 'Odo Menkoa', 'Woso', 'Small Small' among others. He has a very unique style of music with emphasis on culture and origionality and is known for rapping in Twi mostly. He also has some English songs to his credit. In 2012, he launched "The Versatile Show" performed every two years at the National Theatre , a theater show in which he blends his music with drama and poetry.
Okyeame Kwame founded in 2009 the Okyeame Kwame Foundation aimed at raising public awareness on hepatitis B and to provide screening, prevention and education to curb the disease in Ghana, supported by MTN Ghana and the MDS-Lancet Laboratories.
He has been involved in numerous social and philanthropic projects in areas such as education.
Kwame runs his own record label One Mic Entertainment and also Firm Bridges Communications, co-founded with his wife, and he is partner in the shoe manufacturing company Horseman Shoes. He has served as brand ambassador for MTN Group, GT Bank and Coca-Cola in Ghana.
John Cranley Mayor of the city of Cincinnati in Ohio USA on November 21, 2016 presented Okyeame Kwame with a Citation and Key to the City. Handed with a ceremonial scroll and a key allowing him unlimited entry into the state and to organize events and run cultural exchange programs in his capacity as an International Cultural Ambassador.
The Mayor also declared November 17 each year as ‘Okyeame Kwame Day’ to commemorate his status as International Cultural Ambassador to the city.
Okyeame Kwame is indeed a force to reckon with in the Ghana music industry and when it comes to fashion, he has made his mark and he is not stopping anytime soon.
