Written by Nukunu Melon Date: 3/9/2018

‘My dream for the Ghanaian Music Industry is that artistes get more recognition across the continent and the world at large. And there must be a bond between all art industries in the country’

With four singles and a mix tape to his credit, young Ghanaian musician, Emmanuel Amponsah Nyamekye stage named Imani N.A.D was born in March, 1995 at Mataheko. He began his music officially in 2013, reason being he always felt like it was something he was meant to do. Imani’s unique style in music is dictated by his musical vibes he makes against where the influence is, be it trap, afro beats, or anything else.

Afrobeats is the type of music he does with influence from other genres like afro pop, afro trap, afro EDM, etc. His vision is to become a music and business mogul someday, but at the moment, all his focus is on his music career.

Growing up, Imani listened to lots of high life music from Ghanaian doyens like Daddy Lumba, Kojo Antwi, Okomfo Kwadee, amongst others. He also gets inspiration from music legends like Osibisa, Fela Kuti and Frank Sinatra. Currently, Imani fancies music made from Sarkodie and E.L.

For his projects, Imani in 2017 dropped a couple of singles; ‘El Fuego’, ‘Wole’, ‘With You’, with videos and his project which was his debut mix tape, ‘OLIVIA’ produced by Liquid Beats. He dedidicated the mix tape ‘OLIVIA’ to his late aunt. The mix tape is composed of 9 tracks with features from Biqo and Suzz Blaq. It also has one spoken word intro in memory of his aunt. The style of music used brings out the creativity in the mix tape and how versatile the artiste is. “There’s more work in the pipeline for 2018”, he said.

Addressing the challenges in the music industry he said that challenges are all the same for upcoming artistes; having people or someone to support your music, struggling financially which could lead to promo difficulties and so on. But to achieve greatness you may have to face some adversaries so I do not let it bother me.

Imani believes that the way forward in the music industry is artistes coming together whether mainstream or underground to support each other’s art in order to grow the industry.
