The talented cast of Lucky consists of a few veterans and a lot of the next generation of Ghanaian stars such as: Fred Amugi playing Wadaada’s Father, Akofa Adjeani Asiedu playing Lucky’s Mother, Kabuki Akiwumi playing Pamela Lucky’s Ex slightly obsessed Girlfriend, Nenesenor Abloso playing Mastercard, Papa Osei playing Ricky, EFYA playing the famous Nuttifafa, Solomon Fixon-Owoo playing Wadaada, Kumi Obuobisa playing the lead role of Lucky, and one more surprise veteran actor.
Named after its main character, Lucky Barimah Mensah, the film uses modern attributes to tell a coming of age tale. During his final year at University he uses Twitter and social media as a tool to land the biggest date of his life with mega social media star Nuttifafa.
The one massive issue being he has only 10 cedis to his name, past due hostel fees and can’t even afford a taxi. Along with his witty hustler best friend, Jeremiah “Wadaada” Nii Kpakpo Addi, the two embark on a day long adventure trying to sell a macbook for money, full of mistakes, unfortunate encounters, and an everything but lucky events.
The main team behind the film consists of Abstrakte Studios - director and co-writer, Togbe Gauva, producer Lawrence “Trayne” Adjei-Okyere and cinematographer, Godfred Adjei. All three men have intensive education and experience in filmmaking from Canada.
Having two short films under their belt and a number of music videos they have respectfully earned several nominations
at the prestigious Much Music Video Awards in Canada and selections at international film festivals. Their short film “Sophie” Directed and written by Togbe Gavua won best film at The Silicon Valley African Film Festival in California as well at the Benpalli Festival in Ghana along with a long list of other selections internationally. The story was created by one of Abstrakte’s in house producers/actors Kumi Obuobisa and Togbe Gavua and co-written by Joewackle J Kusi and Togbe Gavua. It is executive produced by Kusi Adu-Amankwah and Lawrence Adjei-Okyere. Togbe Gavua’s vision for the film is to contribute to the retelling of the African, more specifically Ghanaian story through cinema. Lucky is a story that is on the ground level what a lot of young people are experiencing today filmed with cinematic brilliance.
The film has already gained a wide audience, just from the release of their first poster on social media which garnered over 50,000 impressions within 3 days. As well as being the number 2 most anticipated film on the GHmoviefreak.com most recent list for 2018.
Promotion of this film will be heavily reliant on social media as the demographic will be available on platforms such as Twitter and Facebook where our audience can have a behind the scenes look of Lucky. In addition, promotion of the film will fit into mediums such as radio, television and online – a spectrum where we believe will be beneficial to both you and the film.
