The 8th annual edition of the Fashion Focus Talks successfully held in four of Africa’s major cities – Abuja, Accra, Lagos and Nairobi – from the 26th of August to the 2nd of September 2018. This year’s talks themed – “Building From Within” – featured some of the industry’s noteworthy creatives who gave insights on how to create and sustain a world class brand.

Sharing their thoughts in each city were: Andrea Iyamah, Vanessa Bannerman, Rukky Ladoja, Adebayo Oke-Lawal, Omoyemi Akerele, Ituen Basi, Aisha Ayensu, Sacha Okoh, Kike Ojewale, Ronke Bamisedun, Claudia Lumor, Og Okonkwo, Nkwo Onwuka, Adama Indimi, James Kahuri, Diana Opoti and Sunny Dolat, who gave insightful advice and spoke on their experiences on how to create an identity for your brand, own it and build it in a manner it stands out from others.

Speaking on the Fashion Focus Talks, Londe Thompson, Programs Director, Fashion Focus Africa stated:

Andrea Iyamah emphasised at the Lagos Edition: “It is fine to learn from other brands but no one will teach you as good as your own experience”.
Vanessa Bannerman in Accra, also stated: “How you present yourself to your customer always needs to be at the top of your mind.”
Commenting on the talks, Silvia Njoki who attended in Nairobi said “The talks were informative, useful and a great platform to network with familiar faces offline. It was a very friendly atmosphere; we all openly shared. I felt greatly motivated and positively challenged to change some career decisions I am making, It certainly lived up to expectations”.

Caribbean Fashion Week 2019
CFW will be celebrated again in 2019 with the staging of its signature fashion showcase in Kingston - the creative city- during June 13th -16th.
Not only will the work of the region's best designers be on show, but everything from the food eaten, the holistic care of the mind and body, what’s worn, and how they rock their styles, will be reflected in this year's CFW.
This event is organised to promote Caribbean fashion and culture, the event takes a different twist this year with hopes of not only bridging the gap between Africa and the Caribbean but also expanding the reach of the booming fashion industry in the Caribbean.
The fashion week will not only have its usual fashion show with supermodels such as Alicia Burke and Jeneil Williams.
The Caribbean’s leading entertainment and fashion brand, the Caribbean Fashion Week will also host big-time Caribbean designers coming from the U.S. and Europe.
Lagos Fashion Week “Between Us” Launch at The Shop at Bluebird London
On the 2nd of April, 2019 Lagos Fashion Week launched "Between Us" in partnership with The Shop at Bluebird, one of the Lagos Fashion Week Presents: London activities.
"Between Us" welcomed the versatile and effervescent spirits of Africa to the The Shop at Bluebird's London flagship store with the first multi-brand pop-up since opening the Covent Garden space in May 2018. "Between Us" honours over twenty unique designers, from womenswear and accessories to interiors and lifestyle, curated by the Founder and Executive Director of Lagos Fashion Week, Omoyemi Akerele and brand consultants Tammy Tinker Pudel and Katrina Macpherson, who are based out of Cape Town.
Notable guests in attendance at the London launch event included: Malaika Firth, Ciara Charteris, Claire Miles, Omoyemi Akerele, Maja Malnar, Andrea Chong, Hanniel Rupert, Sherrille Riley, & DJ Mayz.
Three Lagos Fashion Week designers showcased their AW19 collections live at the event ; Iamisigo, Lisa Folawiyo, & Orange Culture. Other participating brands in the pop-up include AAKS, Anyango Mpinga, Aprelle Duany, Ardmore Design, Asha : Eleven, Chommies, Crystal Birch, Eki Orleans, Eclectic Chique, Galago, Karu, Lisa Folawiyo, Lukhanyo Mdingi, Mami Wata, Maxhosa, Nina Bosch, Okapi, Pop Caven, Studio 189 and Tilayo.
Lagos Fashion Week is hosting a series of events this week including Fashion Business Series in London as well as Fashion Focus Fund Live, a business plan pitch presentation to determine the recipients of a N10,000,000 (10 Million Naira) grant for Fashion Focus 2017/18 finalists as well as Alumni (female).

Fashion Schools In Ghana Bows To RIOHS ORGINATE At The 2019 Edition Of Fashion Ghana Honors And Awards
Riohs Originate Company Limited has established itself as the ultimate Fashion School in Ghana for providing excellent tuition in Fashion Design and Illustration in just six months. The Company is credited and noted for starting the six (6) months course in Fashion Design and Illustration in Ghana some ten (10) years ago. Mr. Ohene Sika added that the vision and plans of the Riohs Originate are to expand its services to incorporate other grey areas and provide master classes which are tailored and targeted at enhancing the skills of persons already established in the fashion business in Ghana and beyond. The agenda is to provide a continuous development education to our own students and also others who may be interested in upgrading their skills.
Riohs Originate was founded in 2010 by Richard Ohene Sika- a writer, singer, fashion designer and talent manager, which has been the driving force behind numerous citizen-centered and educational initiatives.
Richard’s original vision was to offer the general public the chance to take high quality arts courses by distance learning, without prior qualifications or restrictions. He saw Riohs as a means of transforming people’s lives, giving them the opportunity and skills to express their creative talents under the guidance of professional artists.
Lagos Fashion Week Presents – Fashion Focus Fund Live (A N10,000,000 grant) | 5th April 2019
On Friday 5th April, 2019, Lagos Fashion Week will host Fashion Focus Fund Live, a business plan pitch presentation to determine the recipient of the Fashion Focus Fund.
Launched last year, Fashion Focus Fund Live invites Fashion Focus finalists to present their business plans to a panel of judges for the opportunity to access the Fashion Focus Fund - a cash grant of N5,000,000.00 (Five Million Naira), aimed at supporting the development of the next generation of emerging African fashion talent. In addition, they will be enrolled into a year long creative and business mentorship programme.
The 2017/18 Fashion Focus finalists that will be presenting at a closed session to judges who will select the recipient of the N5,000,000 (Five Million Naira) grant are: Faith Oluwajimi (Bloke), Cynthia Abila (Cynthia Abila), Gabriel Solomon (Russell Solomon), Adenike Adegboye (Demure by ‘Denike) and Jermaine Asiedu (Jermaine Bleu).
Speaking on his journey in the last year, the first Fashion Focus Fund recipient, Emmy Kasbit said, “It has been a great experience being part of the Fashion Focus programme. The grant received as well as the mentorship from Ijeoma Ogbechie (Avivere Pret) has enabled me to make great strides in my business”
This year, the Fashion Focus Fund Live presentations will also involve past Alumni of the programme. The stakes are higher with a N10,000.000 (Ten Million Naira) grant for the 2017/18 Fashion Focus Finalists as well as Alumni.
In partnership with Sunlight, two (2) Fashion Focus Alumni (female) will have the opportunity to receive a grant of N2,00,000.00 (Two Million Naira) each to support their businesses. To access this grant, they will present a business plan to a live audience, who will be voting for the winning presentations. The two women with the highest votes, will be awarded the grant of N2,00,000.00 (Two Million Naira) each.
Also new to the Fashion Focus Fund Live presentations is a N1,000,000 (One Million Naira) Audience Favourite Prize for a 2017/18 Fashion Focus finalist. After closed presentation sessions with judges, the Fashion Focus finalists will have the opportunity to present their business plans again but this time, to a live audience for the chance to be voted the Audience Favourite. The finalist with the highest votes from the audience will be awarded the Audience Favourite Prize of N1,000,000 (One Million Naira).
“Contributing to the growth of emerging designers is essential to the development of the industry, the Fashion Focus Programme was created for this reason and continues to exist extending our involvement to the entire African Continent, and exploring more ways to impact fashion entrepreneurs.
