Hyun Min Han (Model Of The Week)

This South Korean model is regarded as the first black model to walk on runways in his country. This didn’t come easy and neither has being biracial in a nation like the one he was born in. He walked for Heich Es Heich in 2016 and has been breaking down doors since.

Han Hyun-min, born 19 May 2001 is a South Korean male model of Nigerian and Korean descent who is the first Korean model of African descent to walk the catwalks in South Korea.

Born to a Nigerian father and a Korean mother from the Han family of Chungju, He was raised in the Itaewon neighborhood of Seoul.

He was discovered by a modeling agency via his Instagram at age 15 while he was still in school. They arranged a meeting and met at a coffee shop where they asked him to walk and signed him on the spot. He’s now one of the loved models in South Korea ever since.

Ozwald Boateng – Designer Of The Week

You basically can’t talk suits without mentioning Ozwald Boateng. He is a British fashion designer of Ghanaian descent, known for his trademark twist on classic British tailoring and bespoke style.

For Boateng to open his boutique on Vigo Street, was enabled in 1994 after the success of the Paris show which was mentored by Tommy Nutter.

Boateng has designed bespoke costumes for films including: Hannibal, Tomorrow Never Dies, Sex and the City, Ugly Betty, Eastern Promises, Alfie, Assault on Precinct 13, The Matrix, Miami Vice, Oceans 13, and Rush Hour 3 and others.

He is also known for making use of African luxury redefined with every stitch, a fusion of woven heritage and modernity, rich in texture, colour and substance. He’s known for his Ties, Suits, Shirts and Knitwear, with the use of local threads and woven kente; sharply tailored not forgoing his “Ozwald Boateng’s” signature.

Most of his designs are worn by world known celebs like Jamie Foxx, Will Smith, P.Diddy, Jay- Z and others.

Ghanaian Designer, Ozwald Boateng To Design Uniforms for British Airways.

Ghanaian – British tailor Ozwald Boateng has been tasked with redesigning the uniforms for British Airways, following in the footprints of Julien MacDonald, the designer of the airline’s current uniform.

Boateng, who is known for bringing a modern contemporary twist to British institution and launched his first womenswear collection earlier this year, will be designing a collection for the airline’s 32,000 employees who wear a uniform as part of their role. This is for the crew to mark the company’s hundred-years of operation was published in a statement.

In a statement, British Airways stated that the OBE-honoured designer would be “working closely” with the airline’s employees throughout the development process, from shadowing them to understand their roles and how the uniforms need to perform, to design, testing and final delivery.

Breaking the information to the world, Ozwald wrote; “I am excited about creating the new uniform for such an iconic brand. I want to create a personalised experience between what I create and what the wearer experiences.” To make this one of the designs that will be remembered, he has vowed to create something iconic, which will first be tested by the crew, arrive at a conclusion before finally producing all the designs.

“I’m looking forward to taking a uniform and refining it into a collection.”

Apparently, this is one more great piece of accomplishment by an African.

Fatou Jobe (Model Of The Week)

Fatou Jobe is a Bronx-born, Gambia-raised girl with both parents from Senegal. She was discovered by Max Tucci who saw her at a train station waiting on her sister and with the help of Beth Boldt who worked for State Management, she was signed by Jhendi and Tuskania.

She made her debut with Calvin Klein and her first photo shoot was with clothing line Miaou with photographer Tyler Mitchell and stylist Tom Van Dorpe.

She’s being managed by State Management (New York), Oui Management (Paris) and Select Model Management (London).
