on

American prefessional Wrestler, Actor, rapper, and TV personality, John Felix Anthony Cena Jr. has been featured in the latest installment of the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise that will go on floors later this month and will hit theaters on May 22, 2020

This marks the first significant casting for the film, which will see the return of director Justin Lin, who previously helmed four installments. Casting a former wrestler worked out well previously for Lin as Dwayne Johnson‘s addition in Fast Five helped elevate the franchise and led to this summer’s spin-off Hobbs & Shaw.

Speaking in an interview last year, the wrestler expressed his gratitude in the diectors and producers of the blockbuster movie for employing his talent to complete the movie, explaining that, he was honoured to join the franchise which has entertained fans for nearly 20 years.

Vin Diesel teased about John Cena’s casting in the ninth installment of Fast & Furious, and Universal officially confirmed that the Blockers actor is a lock. Cena’s character is under wraps, as Dwayne Johnson will not be in Fast & Furious 9.

Earlier this year, Universal Pictures shifted “Fast & Furious 9” back six weeks from April 10 to May 22, 2020 — the start of the Memorial Day weekend. Dan Casey is writing the screenplay from a story by Justin Lin. Production starts later this month for a May 22, 2020 release. Diesel is producing through his One Race Films and Lin for Perfect Storm Entertainment.

The eighth movie in the franchise, “The Fate of the Furious,” stunned Hollywood in 2017, grossing $1.2 billion worldwide. It was directed by F. Gary Gray and starred Diesel, Mirren, Theron, Johnson, Statham, Rodriguez, Gibson, Bridges, Scott Eastwood, Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky, Kurt Russell, and Theron.

The eight films in the franchise, launched in 2001, have collectively grossed more than $5 billion worldwide. “Furious 7,” which featured the late Paul Walker’s final appearance, is the top performer, having hauled $1.5 billion globally.

The first spinoff title, “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” hits theaters on Aug. 2. The film pairs Johnson’s former U.S. Diplomatic Security Service agent Luke Hobbs and Statham’s ex-MI6 agent Deckard Shaw, joining forces to take on Idris Elba’s international terrorist Brixton. Mirren is also starring in “Hobbs & Shaw.”

The actor will be joining Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren. “Fast & Furious 9” is scheduled to be released on May 22, 2020 by Universal Pictures. This is the latest blockbuster opportunity for Cena, who starred in last year’s Transformers spinoff Bumblebee and recently enlisted in James Gunn’s new Suicide Squad film.

“Denis Villeneuve Is The Best Director To Reboot Dune. – Dave Bautista

Published

on

Dave Bautista has insisted director Denis Villeneuve is “the best person” to reboot epic sci-fi movie Dune because he was a big fan of the books growing up.

The Guardians of the Galaxy actor first worked with the Arrival filmmaker on 2017’s Blade Runner 2049 and recently reunited with him to play Glossu Rabban in Dune, a new adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel of the same name, after David Lynch’s attempt in 1984. Advertisement

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bautista insisted Villeneuve is perfect for the job because he genuinely cares about the source material.

“His take on Dune is very true to the books. If you know his style of filmmaking, it’s perfect. He was tailor-made to do this,” he gushed. “I hope he won’t mind that I’m saying this, but when I talked to him about Dune, he said that he really wanted to pay honour to the books. He was such a fan of the books growing up. So, people who are fans of the book are just going to love this film. They’re actually going to see all these characters brought to life. He’s absolutely, without a doubt, the best person to do it.”

Bautista also explained that he won’t make any decisions about his character, also known as the Beast, before he begins filming because he made a mistake by doing that on Blade Runner 2049, when he came in with an idea of who his character was and Villeneuve gave him a completely different direction.

“So, I don’t want to wrap my head around my idea of who the Beast is before I get there. I just know Denis is going to tell me that he is someone else,” the 50-year-old laughed. “So, I will follow his direction.”

Dune follows the conflict between two rival noble families as they battle for control of desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune, which is the only source of “the spice”, a drug which can extend human life, making it the most valuable commodity in the universe.

The film stars Timothee Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya and Rebecca Ferguson and is expected to be split into two films, with the first being released in November 2020.

AVENGERS: Endgame Passes Avatar To Become Biggest Film Of All Time.

Published

on

Avengers: Endgame has topped Avatar to become the highest-grossing film of all time.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige made the news official at the studio's Comic-Con panel in San Diego, California on Saturday, announcing the blockbuster would pass Avatar's $2.78 billion global box office mark over the weekend, ending the James Cameron-directed movie's nine-year reign.

Avatar

"Thanks to you, Avengers: Endgame is the biggest film of all-time," Feige told fans in Comic-Con's fabled Hall H.

While Avengers: Endgame co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo took to Twitter to share a similar sentiment.

"To the greatest fans in the universe, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you...," they commented.

Avengers: Endgame, featuring an ensemble cast including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Brie Larson, follows the surviving members of the Avengers and their allies as they attempt to reverse the damage caused by Thanos, as played by Josh Brolin, in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War.

The blockbuster has passed Avatar's record in just 13 weeks, and in a statement, Alan Horn, co-chairman and chief creative officer of Marvel's parent company, The Walt Disney Studios, praised the cast and crew for their achievements.

"A huge congratulations to the Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios teams, and thank you to the fans around the world who lifted Avengers: Endgame to these historic heights," he commented. "Of course, even with the passage of a decade, the impact of James Cameron's Avatar remains as powerful as ever, and the astonishing achievements of both of these films are ongoing proof of the power of movies to move people and bring them together in a shared experience. The talented filmmakers behind these worlds have much more in store, and we look forward to the future of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and (Avatar's setting) Pandora."

Bosses at Disney are also celebrating another record-breaking weekend in North America, as The Lion King has roared to the top of the box office to become the biggest July opening of all time.

Marvel Is Rebooting Blade, With Mahershala Ali Set To Star.

Published

on

One of the bombshell announcements during Marvel’s Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con tonight was that the studio would be rebooting Blade, with True Detective and Luke Cage actor Mahershala Ali set to star.

The character was one of the first of Marvel’s superheroes to become a notable hit as a film: Blade was released in 1998, starring Wesley Snipes as the titular vampire hunter, a role he’d go on to reprise in 2002 for Blade II, and in 2004 for Blade: Trinity. Marvel reacquired the rights to the character, as well as Ghost Rider and the Punisher back in 2013. Marvel brought in Ghost Rider (which had been a pair of films starring Nicholas Cage), and the Punisher (another two films), for Agents of SHIELD, and its Netflix superhero franchise, starting with Daredevil, respectively.

Marvel didn’t release any additional details about when we’ll see Blade back in action, nor what form — at this point it could be either a series for Disney+ or a feature film. There are certainly plenty of opportunities for both in the coming years.

The character was born Eric Brooks, and is half-human, half vampire. He first appeared in comics in 1973 in The Tomb of Dracula #10, and after saving a man from vampires, turned to hunting them.

Something that the studio will need to figure out at some point is how to reconcile Ali’s role as Blade and as Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes from Netflix’s Luke Cage series, which is technically a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well (albeit loosely, given the tenuous connections between the franchises). For that matter, he was also the voice of Miles Morales’ Uncle Aaron in Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse. He’s certainly no stranger to superheroes.
