BBC World Service was in Accra, Ghana, this week to record the world-renowned radio program, The Arts Hour on Tour. The theme for this edition was “The Year of Return.” Host Nikki Bedi was joined on stage, at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, by the award-winning actress Lydia Forson, artist Kwame Akoto Bamfo, award-winning rapper M.anifest, singer Cina Soul and Ghana’s comedy king DKB.
With the mentioned guests, the host, Nikki Bedi discussed issues surrounding the theme; “The Year of Return”, slavery, how to reorganize ourselves as Africans and get back on track were among things spoken at length by the guests of the program.
DKB who was one of the guests and also a representative for the Ghanaian comedy industry spoke at length about how thriving the industry has been over the years. He made mention some of the challenges faced by Comedians and comedy lovers in the country. He [DKB] said “Financially the industry is lacking, there is the need to find investors to invest in the craft because there is an up rise of immense comedic talent in the country. Also the issue about venue; this is a huge problem for the comedy industry. The owners of the venues would rather host music shows than host a comedy show simply because of the profits a music concert will fetch. Meanwhile has the same potential music has, so those that give us venues, we are very grateful for belief.”
The comedian also used the opportunity to appreciate Ghanaians for the support they are giving to push Ghana Comedy. His monthly comedy show; Comedy Express which happens the first Friday of every month, is always packed and even though the venue for the show has been changed to the SOHO Bar inside the Marina Mall, patrons still come in their overwhelming numbers to enjoy a great time. If you are interested in attending any edition follow Comedy Express on social media for further information.
There were musical performances on the night from rapper M.anifest and singer Cina Soul.
The program will air on BBC World Service on Saturday 28 September and will be available on the BBC World Service website after that at www.bbcworldservice.com/artshour

Kevin Hart Sex Tape Scandal; See The Actual Evidence Of The $5 Million Demand.
The Los Angeles District Attorney's office dismissed the extortion charge against Kevin Hart's former best friend JT Jackson, and we've obtained a copy of the cash demand at the center of the criminal charge and sex tape scandal.
According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, prosecutors were given an Instagram message that was deemed to be an extortionist threat to the actor.
"Give me $5 Million or I'm releasing the video. No need to make this go public. You had your chance," the message read.
Using this information, the district attorney was able to obtain search warrants for the identity of who was behind the account.
Also, they used similar information to raid the home of JT Jackson, the alleged suspect behind the demand.
The belief by investigators was that the accounts were somehow related or operated by JT Jackson or people working with Hart's friend.
According to our sources, it turned out the message itself was in the comment section of Instagram and associated to a video apology made by Hart to his family.
Plus, it turns out the account "misterjood," was actually a person in New Jersey who was just trolling the actor.
Jackson's legal team even reached a commenter who reacted to the threat, who was a young man in Texas. Jackson's team says none of these individuals are connected to him.
The Blast broke the story, upon learning the threat came from an online troll, the DA dropped the extortion charge against Jackson and filed documents admitting the theory about the Instagram didn't pan out.
Sources close to Kevin Hart tell us, there is still a mountain of evidence that JT Jackson was involved in the illegal filming of the sex tape and its attempted sale. Just not over Instagram.
Jackson is still facing several felonies including obtaining the sex tape as stolen property, and trying to sell it.
We're told several demands were also made via email, and prosecutors believe they have good evidence the IP address behind the emails is Jackson.
Kevin Hart was sued for millions of dollars for allegedly orchestrating the entire sex tape scandal for publicity for his comedy special.
Hart has denied any involvement, and has maintained he is victim in all aspects of this case .

Kevin Hart Faces $60 Million Lawsuit Over 2017 Las Vegas Hotel Room Recording.
Kevin Hart faces a $60 million lawsuit after model and actress Montia Sabbag accused the comedian of negligence, infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy stemming from a 2017 incident, according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY.
Sabbag made headlines with Hart in September 2017 after a video of the two having sex in a Las Vegas hotel room was uploaded online. She denied speculation at the time that she was suing or extorting the comedian, announcing she wanted to join forces with him against the person who illegally recorded them.
"My pictures and my name have been released with lies written about me," Sabbag told reporters in 2017. "I am not an extortionist. I am not a stripper. I am a recording artist and an actress and I have not broken any laws."
In a new lawsuit filed Sept. 16, 2019, she accuses Jonathan Todd Jackson of secretly recording her "without her knowledge or consent, while she was engaged in private, consensual sexual relations with Hart," according to the documents. Sabbag also is suing Hart, as well as hotel operators Marriott, Blackstone and the Cosmopolitan, for "negligently or intentionally" allowing Jackson access to his hotel room.
USA TODAY has reached out to Hart's representatives and Sabbag's lawyer for comment.
The new lawsuit was filed on the eve of the second anniversary of the video's posting.
Sabbag alleges in the lawsuit that she believes Hart worked with Jackson to record her in an attempt to gain publicity for his stand-up comedy "Irresponsible Tour," which began days before the video went public and continued through 2018.
Lawyer Lisa Bloom, who represented Sabbag in 2017, referred to Hart as a victim at the time, telling reporters they did not plan to sue Hart or make claims against him.
Hart publicly apologized at the time to his wife Eniko and children Heaven, now 14, and Hendrix, now 11. The couple has since welcomed Kenzo, 1.
"I’m not perfect. I’m not going to sit up here and say that I am, or claim to be in any way shape or form," he said. "And I made a bad error in judgment and I put myself in a bad environment where only bad things can happen, and they did. And in doing that I know that I’m going to hurt the people closest to me, who I talked to and apologized to, that would be my wife and my kids."
Hart is currently recovering from a major back injury after his vintage muscle car crashed in Malibu earlier this month. Eniko Hart told TMZ outside the hospital shortly after the accident that he was "going to be just fine."
