Collaborating for Growth ~ Aftown Music Is Set For AfroMusicon 2018!



After a year of operations in Ghana, over 22,000 subscribers and 300 signed acts; it’s become evident that both artists and music lovers are receptive to the business side of music.

Aftown exists not only to help artistes make money, but also for music lovers to have a one-stop shop to download and stream all their favorite songs from artists they love. Dwayne Johnson to Receive ‘Generation’ Award at 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards.



MTV has announced that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be honored with the “Generation” Award during the “2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards.”

Johnson previously hosted the show in 2016 with “Central Intelligence” co-star Kevin Hart. The “Generation” Award celebrates “beloved actors whose diverse contributions to both film and television have turned them into household names in the industry,” according to MTV.

Past recipients  include Chris Pratt, Will Smith, Reese Witherspoon, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Wahlberg, Sandra Bullock, Jamie Foxx, Johnny Depp, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey and the entire “Fast & Furious” franchise.

“Johnson is an icon on both film and TV who has become one of the most beloved actors of our generation,” said Amy Doyle, general manager, MTV, VH1, CMT and Logo. “Throughout his career, Johnson has proven to be the ultimate badass – an action star with a flair for comedy, one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time and a true family man. He continues to captivate his audience worldwide and we are thrilled to celebrate him with the Generation Award.”

MTV revealed earlier this week that Jada Pinkett Smith will be honored with the “Trailblazer” Award at the ceremony hosted by “Shazam!” star Zachary Levi.

“RBG,” “Game of Thrones” and “Avengers: Endgame” received the most nominations this year, with four apiece. New categories which will feature at the 2019 awards include Reality Royalty, Most Meme-able Moment, and Best Real-Life Hero. In terms of musical performances, so far MTV has revealed that Lizzo will be taking to the stage, as well as singer, songwriter and producer Bazzi, who will perform his song “Paradise.”

The 2019 “MTV Movie & TV Awards” will take place on Monday, June 17 at 9:00 PM ET/PT.

“I Promise To Keep Rap Music Alive” – Rapper Medikal Pledges.



Ghanaian born Hippop artiste, Medikal with his government name as Samuel Adu Frimpong  has revealed that, his timely intervention rescued rap genre of music;  especially from power and consequences of other dominated genre of music in Ghana.

According to the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards(VGMA) Hiplife/Hippop artiste of the year, for the last half a decaded, rap genre of music lost a spot in Ghana's entertainment ecosystem; recording low patronage, as other genre, including Reggae/Dancehall and Highlife had greater influence on the music market.

The Sowutuom based rapper who is set to release an Extended Play (EP) dubbed "The Plug" on 15th June 2019, noted that, hippop or rap music was neglected by a wide section of Ghanaians, as its been percieved as a nomadic and peregrine genre of music, which tauts contrary to the highly recognized Ghanaian indigenous culture.

The AMG Business linchpin made this contestious and debatable claims in a tweet verified by app developers. The rapper stated that, his toil and blood shared in the last four years has been significant enough and has salvaged rap music from being subdued by Reggae/Dancehall, Afrobeats, and Highlife music.

He revealed that, he reincarnated hippop or rap music in Ghana, explaining that, his style of rap music was appealing to the masses, and suits the Ghanaian entertainment market, adding that, his positive vibes emboldened patrons to cultivate the rap or hippop culture.

Medikal, therefore declared his unshrinking solidarity to to rap music in Ghana, explicating that, he pledge to keep the momentum; impelling force garnered in the last four years of his career with the objective of elevating that respective genre

Stonebwoy’s energetic performance thrills Kenyans at Tomorrow Leaders Festival



Kenyan music lovers braved a long, cold and rainy night just to see their favourite musicians perform at the much-anticipated Tomorrow Leaders Festival.

The event which was held at the Kasarani Stadium, Nairobi on Saturday (08.09.19) went on well into the dawn of Sunday.

The much anticipated Tomorrow Leaders Festival was organized by the Grammy Award-winning Royal Reggae family from Jamaica Morgan Heritage and the line up boasted of some of the biggest names in the music industry.

These included Ghana’s dancehall superstar Stonebwoy, Nigeria’s Yemi Alade, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz, Cameroon’s Stanley Enow, Ethiopia’s Rophnan, Hawaii’s J Boog, Jamaica’s Alaine as well as Jemere Morgan.

Despite these misses at the event as a result of the heavy rains, the show was salvaged as Ghanaian based BET Award-winning artisteStonebwoy delivered an energetic performance. Stonebwoy treated audience at the event to a miscellany of popular songs of his.

Talking to Murugi Gichovi a reporter for Capital FM Kenya, he told that Stonebwoy’s performance was one of a kind and it saved the night.

World acclaimed Morgan Heritage came through in a major way and took the concert to a whole other level, brothers Gramps, Mojo and Peetah alongside their band thrilled the revelers with tunes like ‘Don’t Haffi Dread’, ‘Tell me how come’ and ‘Pay Attention’.

The group called up Jemere Morgan to sing his hit track ‘International Love and perform the perfect duet of his jam ‘Try Jah Love’ alongside his father Gramps Morgan. Hawaiian J Boog famed for his song ‘Let’s Do It Again’ joined the Reggae family on stage for a brief performance.

The Tomorrow Leaders Festival is a one of a kind music festival that was created by Morgan Heritage and has been dubbed as a movement to save a generation.

Rocky Dawuni wins “Artist Of The Month” on Global Reggae Charts



Global Reggae Charts is a monthly magazine that features key and major reggae releases across the world for “Best Singles” and “Best Album/EP”, thus, also highlights Reggae artistes whose works have been visible and influential every month.

Ghana’s Grammy nominee debutant, Rocky Dawuni, got the spotlight for “Artiste Of The Month” for May 2019 on their platform as “Artist Of The Month”, thus throwing spotlight on his latest body body of “Beats Of Zion”, a 13-tracked album released in March 2019.

2 classic international standard videos have been released from the album already, with more visuals to be released too. “Beats Of Zion”, the album title track was shot in his home country, Ghana, in the heart of Accra in Jamestown, one of the clustered squatters in the Capital — it was directed by Lex McCarthy.

The second video “Wickedest Sound” which featured Ghanaian BET Winner, Stonebwoy, details an Afro nightlife party with colourful scenes recounting the daily life of citizens who work tirelessly during the day and later chill out in the night regardless of their challenges in life; it was shot and directed by Slingshot HD Ghana.
