Utrecht’s experimental festival has announced the first acts for its 2019 edition, including Dur-Dur Band, Ustad Saami, Ahmed ag Kaedy, Mélissa Laveaux, Idris Ackamoor, Ethiopian legend Ayalew Mesfin and more will join him at the Utrecht festival.

Taking place in the beautiful Dutch city of Utrecht, Le Guess Who? is dedicated to boundary-crossing music from all over the world, featuring avant-garde, jazz, hip hop, electronic, experimental, global sounds and other genres. The line-up consists of more than a hundred acts including world-exclusive live performances. A festival full of discoveries in a truly idyllic setting.

Le Guess Who? announced the exclusive European performance of legendary adept highlife singer, composer and instrumentalist, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, a show featuring the Sekondi Band, who has had successful European tours to keep the spirit and craft of Ghana's golden age of pop alive.

Band Leader & Keyboardist, Anim Karikari.

Gyedu-Blay Ambolley is a Ghanaian highlife musician, songwriter, producer, and composer. The first musician from Ghana to formally incorporate rap forms into local highlife rhythms, Ambolley created the musical genre Simigwa.

In June 2015 Ambolley received a citation in the USA from the City Council of Philadelphia, read by Council woman ; Honorable Jannie Blackwell and Hon. Stanley J. Staughter in recognition of the musician’s contributions to Ghanaian music in the USA.

Gyedu-Blay Ambolley was rather unknown outside of West Africa until Soundway Records included his seminal Simigwa-Do, which Ambolley released in 1973, on their first anthology, Ghana Soundz. Ambolley’s sound has led many to label him the godfather of hiplife, the fusion of the hip hop and highlife idioms.

Ghanaian Dancehall Giants Indefinitely Banned From VGMAs.

Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall Artiste, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale have been banned indefinitely from partaking in the successive Vodafone Ghana Music Awards scheme(VGMAs), after their conducts marred the just ended 20th edition of the award ceremony.

The two Reggae/Dancehall giants have also been stripped off all the awards they won at the last ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), as their demeanour and deportment breached the code, ethics and conducts of the awards scheme.

A board member of the awards scheme and CEO of Slip Entertainment, Mark Okraku Mantey, explained that, the board has the right to dismiss or disqualify any nominee who misbehaves or brings the Awards into disrepute, thus, denigrate the reputation of the awards scheme.

This decision was taken by Charter House, organizers of the VGMA and was annouced by Chairman of the 2019 VGMA board, Amandzeba Nat Brew at a press conference on Thursday, 23rd of May, 2019, 10:00am.

Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy were arrested by the police on Sunday over a brawl that erupted between their camps at the 20th anniversary of the VGMA that led to the public disturbance on the night.

Pandemonium broke out shortly after Stonebwoy was announced the winner of ‘Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year’ when Shatta Wale and his team were seen going towards the stage, their intentions unclear.

This arbitrament also states that, the "Shugah" hitmaker, Stonebwoy, and the "Kpu Kpa" hitmaker, Shatta Wale will not participate in Vodafone Ghana Music Awards nomination, selections, and performances.

This judgement divest Stonebwoy, whose governement name is Livingstone Etse Satekla and Shatta Wale born, Charles Nii-Armah Mensah the functions, power and title of their respective categories won at the event, and are expected to return the won plaques in their possession to the organizers of the show, Charter House Ltd.

Meanwhile, prior to the news conference held by Charter House, Shatta Wale upon sober reflections rescued himself from participating from Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) in the future.
