Women and hip-hop shined at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.

Kacey Musgraves, Lady Gaga, Cardi B, and Childish Gambino were among Sunday’s big winners. Musgraves took home one of the four top awards of the night, album of the year, in addition to almost sweeping the country categories with three additional wins. Gambino’s “This Is America” made history, nabbing hip hop’s first-ever wins in the song of the year and record of the year categories.

Meanwhile, Cardi B also broke ground as the first solo woman to take home a rap album Grammy.

Brandi Carlile, who scored a commanding seven Grammy nominations, was one of Sunday’s early winners, winning all three of the awards she was up for in the pre-telecast ceremony.

Lady Gaga also won big with three, while awards-shy Drake surprised the crowd by accepting the trophy for best rap song for “God’s Plan.” Dua Lipa was named best new artist.

Alicia Keys, a 15-time Grammy winner, hosted the ceremony in Los Angeles.

SPAIN: Stonebwoy Proves Supremacy At The Rototom Sunsplash Festival.

Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall legend christined Livingstone Etse Satekla professionally known within the Reggae/Dancehall world as Stonebwoy, with enormous rhythmic diversity on offer throughout the Rototom Sunsplah chalked huge success after the he delivered a fascinating performance at this years edition of the festival.

With thousands of Reggae/Dancehall fanatics and a fully charged crowd in anticipation of Stonebwoy's performance, he delivered with overwhelming cheers from fans as he performed their favorite and most of his hits songs. His presence also set the whole Rototom Sunsplash awake, as festival goers were still demanding for more performances when the show was over.

This years edition of the Rototom Soundsplash witnessed some number of supporting performance. The Wednesday's main Stage hosted Grammy award winning music group, Morgan Heritage who performed together with Stonebwoy to deliver their undiluted talents to the reserved fans and crowd who roared in excitement to see Stonebwoy perform along side the group.

A more surprising guest was Wednesday’s Lion Stage headliner Stonebwoy. Since recording began in Ghana, singers and players of instruments have come together. The night saw Rototom invite the Ghanaian performer to the Main Stage, while showcasing infectious Afro-Latin rhythms elsewhere. The forward-thinking reggae dynasty Stonebwoy shared everything from the title track to 2017’s album Strictly Roots, to his old favourites "People Dey" and "Hero", to his fresh music "Shuga".

The concert was a rather unique offering to fans who have been eagerly anticipating this event, as it provided fans the opportunity to experience the Reggae/Dancehall and Afro-pop sensation without the typical hordes of fans at his concerts. The event, however, did not disappoint, with "Top Skanka" providing an electric performance that came in three folds, The Liveband Reggae session, Dancehall session and the Afro-Beats session, living uneraseable memories on the minds of the fans.

The roots reggae of the 1970s was embodied by Stonebwoy, (backed by legendary studio band the Roots Radics, featuring bass player Flabba Holt, and guitarists Dwight Pinkney and Steve Golding) blended their distinctive voices over their vast catalogue of music. A very different take on reggae was experienced. Visiting Rototom for the first time, his fun, bouncy, speedy approach to music occupied a similar space in the evening.

Sound system boxes gave way to the Ghanaian performer, as the Main Stage went even further back in time. Evergreen mento group the Jolly Boys have been playing the precursor to reggae and ska since the late 1940s – and show no signs of slowing down. They stuck to mento staples like Hold Him Joe rather than their covers of Iggy Pop’s the Passenger and Bobby Fuller’s I Fought The Law. Before their performance they gave a talk at the Reggae University about how they have endured changing line-ups and fashions over the decades.

Grammy nominee, Stonebwoy, who knows how to engineer an event was locked in from the first minute, and refused to let anyone forget that he was giving this performance his all. He’s clearly been putting in the work to step his game up, but the true edge he has is still his eye as a visual storyteller. His showmanship on the night was a perfect liaison that cemented his worth on the night.

Rototom Sunsplash is a large European reggae festival, it takes place every summer at Benicassim (with beaches in the Mediterranean Sea), a few miles north of Valencia in Spain. Since 1994 it attracts thousands of reggae enthusiasts from all over the world, thanks to a vast cultural and musical program that lasts for a whole week.

EVENT REVIEW: Akesse Brempong’s Agape Carnival.

After relentlessly throwing an invite to all and sundry for what would be a memorable day in the history of music concerts in Ghana, Akesse Brempong and the Tribe of Judah didn’t disappoint during the 5th edition of his annual flagship event, Agape Carnival.

From the onset of the event, patrons were pumped up for every delivery that was to come their way as majority of the audience were within a youthful age range, hence, by the time Paolo was done with his praise package, the loud chants of the people could be heard from several miles away from the Achimota Retail Centre.

Fast-rising gospel minstrel, Efe Grace, also lived up to expectations with her delivery of some soulful worship medleys that set the tone for an encounter with divinity.

Facilitated by Tv/Radio personality, Sokoohemaa  and host of Cold Facts on GNTV, Kwesi Dope, the running of the whole show was a smooth set of transitions in-between performances.

By the time Urban Gospel pioneer, Kingzkid, took to stage, the youthful exuberance of the crowd gathered was turned up to it’s maximum level as he led them through several hip hop jams with intrinsic lyrical compositions about the centre of attraction for the believer, Jesus.

All the way from the Oil city, KODA took to stage in the latter hours of the event and was his usual self in stirring up the audience with his indigenous guitar licks and local grooves as he dished out remixes of hits after hits.

The moment finally came for the host to thrill fans who had come from far and near to witness their artiste in his element.

Akesse Brempong and his band, the Tribe of Judah, mounted the stage preceded by an array of flag-waving models with a background jam of his signature bongo worship tune.

He started it off with some bongo worship and switched over to his regular Afropop hits, Wonderful and Crazy love.

He then transitioned into the main package for the night with yet another compilation of unrestrained worship songs of ancient Pentecostal roots that sank deep beneath the skin, piercing through the bones and marrows of even the unsaved, resulting in dozens of people surrendering their lives to Jesus when the leader of the Empowerment Worship Centre, Prophet Gideon Danso, intercepted the worship to do an alter call.

The reggae kingpin was in his element afterwards with a new tune that he might probably call ‘Oye’. It was a masterpiece to behold.

He continued with several other new songs that did justice to the Afrobeat genre of which music lovers should watch out for.

The ‘Crazy love dude’, crowned it all with an intense danceable jam that featured the dance moves of several of the patrons that he randomly called on stage to show their dance skills.

It was a night of unique interaction and socialization with the audience- something rarely seen these days within the Gospel fraternity during live shows.

The entire event could be termed as a major success with an undisputed title as the longest running live gospel outdoor event with the best sound production kind courtesy, Upswing Music.

Though the venue itself was too small for the numbers, it helped with crowd control and the adequate security measures put in place to ensure safety.

The time for commencing the event was appalling as is the case for most of such events as patrons were forced to stand for long hours waiting for the soundcheck to be completed before the show itself was underway.

The parking spaces for cars were carefully taken into consideration and although it was held on the car park of the Achimota Retail Centre, it didn’t conflict with the regular vehicular movements involved.

All in all, the entire duration of performances were on point and left patrons wanting more after the last chord was struck.

People just can’t wait for some good entertaining and spiritually edifying 6th edition of Agape Carnival.

How to put this in words? How to describe something that goes far beyond logic thinking or cognitive perception? Imagine eating your favourite home-made diner after returning from a long absence, imagine the first day off after working two weeks straight, imagine jumping in a cool lake after a day-long march through the desert… certainly, every one of you can find a metaphor to relate to how fans feel seeing Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy, known as 1Gad live again after such a long period of deprivement.

Reggae Rotterdam will be the greatest festival night that will not be forgotten in the life Stonebwoy and Ghana music as the Reggae Dancehall artiste etched his name in the history books with an outstanding performance and highlighting a vivid indication of his increasing dominance on the global scene.

His performance at this year's Reggae Rotterdam Festival has left Ghana on the minds of music lovers, and, accordingly, fans have come from all over to witness the the Ghanaian Reggae giant. Excitement and anticipation peak when, the members of his Band take their places behind their respective instruments. An overdose of music, artist presence and emotion make the ensuing 90 minutes a bit surreal.

UPPSALA REGGAE FESTIVAL, SWEDEN.

In Sweden at the Uppsala Reggae Festival, the enchantment thus created turns into an all-compassing energy when the distinctive sounds of the next song hit: Murderer! Honestly, it's close to impossible to describe the vibe that sweeps away the crowd right now. Singing along is not enough, it's rather a shouting along for the audience, jumping up and down in a frenzy where the limited space allows.

The Grammy award nominee thrilled the audience with medleys of his hits beginning with most off the billboard rated album, Epistles of Mama which they gleefully sang along. Stonebwoy energetically jumped around the beautifully designed set which housed a lively audience.

Uppsala Reggae Festival is the largest reggae festival in Scandinavia. It has been active since 2001, with a number of notable artists performing. It was first held in 2001, but the name was used as early as 1995. Uppsala Reggae Festival attracts attendees of all ages from all over the world. In connection with the 2001 festival, Uppsala was given the epithet "The Reggae Mecca of Scandinavia" by the Swedish National TV4, on the grounds that the festival then was the only festival in Scandinavia specifically dedicated to reggae.

The third Uppsala Reggae Festival was awarded that year's cultural award by Swedish National Radio Broadcasting, and the fourth festival featured the largest reggae lineup ever to play in Scandinavia. Starting in 2002, the festival was held in August each year in Uppsala, 70 km north of Stockholm until it relocated in 2012. In 2004, the festival settled down at its current venue, KAP, which is central and in the heart of the city. Both in 2004 and 2005, the festival had about 10,000 attendees. Moreover, in 2007, the festival had the most visitors recorded to date with approximately 24,000 patrons attending the festival.

In 2012, the festival moved to Gävle where it was held in 2012 and 2013. However, after a couple of years, the promoters decided to cancel the festival. After a six year long hiatus, where the festival had left a big void in the city of Uppsala, it was announced in December 2016 that the festival would be making a long-awaited comeback in 2017. It has been confirmed that the festival will be held at the same venue as prior years, with the biggest change being that it will only be one day, as opposed to the two or three days that had become the custom in the past.

HILL VIBES FESTIVAL, AUSTRIA.

In its seventh year in 2019, Hill Vibes in Telfs, Austria organized by volunteers of the “Rasta Hill Camp”, is a celebration of sustainability with reggae music. Each summer for four days, the Hill Vibes Festival brings international stars of the reggae world to Telfs – this year’s lineup includes Busy Signal, Stonebwoy, Junior Kelly, Tanya Stephens, Agent Sasco, Chuck Fenda, Everton Blender and Perfect Giddimani. The party continues at the Soundsystem Area on the campground at the daily scheduled Dancehall After Party, where DJs will son the tables.

Attending its seventh edition – moved from August to warmer July - it was easy to see why this was such a good concept. Untroubled by occasional light rain, a free spirited reggae-dancehall-savvy crowd gathered in elevated woodland seclusion for a mix of Ghanaian-Jamaican, music.

The Event witnessed the diversity of Africa Carabian reggae. The melange of African, Euro and Jamaican influences that was Stonebwoy contrasted with the eccentrically named, surprisingly traditional roots. The aforementioned Ghanaian Voice opened for his indescribably flamboyant relation perfromance. Much of what he and band did seemed improvised and impromptu; yet he held attention with her charisma – channelling equal parts enabling got fans grooving along.

It however seems he was urgently needed in Austria, a move he immediately honored in an astonishing manner. After hours of rehearsal with a foreign based live band crew, Stonebwoy perfectly rocked the stage of Hills Vibes Festival in Austria. His entry on stage and performance throughout the night was full of energy. He lifted high the flags of Ghana and made history for Mama Africa.

The Hill Vibes Festival is a non-profit project and expertly combines international stars of the reggae world, lively entertainment, yoga and dance workshops, along with sports activities such as climbing. Plus, there will be intriguing vendor booths and stalls serving fair international fare and treats from all over the world. For the little ones, fun and entertainment are provided at the Family Area, complete with childcare.

Revolving around the theme of “Together as One”, the festival acts as a source of unity instead of division, discrimination and xenophobia. Venue ist the Telfs sports and events center on Franz-Rimml-Straße street.

And then, just like that, this dream come true ist over. No encore, as we already reached the strict curfew of 1am, so, after expressing their appreciation in a lengthy applause, the crowd slowly disperses. Backstage, a sweat-drenched but elated Stonebwoy chats with other artists and crew members, confirming the positive impression he conveyed on stage: Stonebwoy is back, he is hungry and he certainly has great things in store for us. He will be in Portugal for the Afronation Concert.

VIDEO: Fuse ODG Leaves A Pleasurable Excitement In Cairo.

Multiple awards winning Ghanaian-English Afrobeats, Hiplife, Hip pop, Reggae and Dance recording artist, Nana Richard Abiona, professionally known as Fuse Off The Ground(Fuse ODG) thrilled numerous music and football fanatics with an elated performance at the finals of the just ended Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON) tournament in Egypt.

The event which was slated for Friday, July 19, 2019 saw the three times (2013, 2014×2) Music of Black Origin(MOBO) Awards winning artiste thrilling music fanatics and football enthusiast, including dignitaries representing from various African countries with his undiluted talent and artistry prowess at the Cairo International Stadium.

His performance was overwhelming and mouth watering that non-music fanatics and the reserved football enthusiasts on feet grooving to the soul soothing song from the president of TINA. He created an atmosphere and cool ambiance that was appealing to the illustrious dignitaries who made their presence known.

Fuse OGD performed most of his hit songs, “Antenna”, “Million Pound Girl (Badder Than Bad)”, “Dangerous Love”, featuring Sean Paul, “Azonto”, and some songs off his lastest professional studio music album project, New Africa Nation, including Bra Fie (Come Home) [featuring Damian JR GONG Marley], Boa Me Ft. Ed Sheeran, Mugeez, All Night Long (feat. SteffLon Don).

Nana Richard Abiona (born 2 December 1988), better known by his stage name Fuse ODG, is a Ghanaian-English recording artist. He is best known for his 2013 single “Antenna” which peaked at number 7 on the UK Singles Chart, and for featuring in Major Lazer’s “Light It Up (Remix)” which also peaked at number 7 on the UK Singles Chart. Born in London and raised in Ghana, Fuse returned to London for his secondary education, where he attended the Archbishop Lanfranc School, Croydon. He grew up in Mitcham, South London.

Fuse ODG released his much anticipated 2nd professional studio music album tagged the ”New Africa Nation” album. The 2nd successive studio project comes out laced with 14 African sensation tracks in total with a flavoursome array of local and international heavyweights such as; Damien Marley, Ed Sheeran, Mugeez, Stefflon Don, Suli Breezy, Simi and Sarkodie.

It follows T.I.N.A (This is New Africa), released in 2013, and featuring the singles “Antenna”, which peaked at number 7 on the UK Singles Chart, and “Azonto”, which peaked at number 30. Other songs off the album include the Sean Paul-assisted “Dangerous Love,” “Million Pound Girl,” “T.I.N.A” and “Angel.”

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (abbreviated as AFCON2019 or CAN2019), known as the Total 2019 Africa Cup of Nations for sponsorship reasons, is the 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the biennial international men’s football championship of Africa organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The tournament was being hosted by Egypt. The competition was held from 21 June to 19 July 2019, as per the decision of the CAF Executive Committee on 20 July 2017 to move the Africa Cup of Nations from January/February to June/July for the first time. It is also the first Africa Cup of Nations expanded from 16 to 24 teams.

The tournament was initially scheduled to be hosted by Cameroon for the first time since 1972. They were also the title holders after winning the previous edition. On 30 November 2018, Cameroon was stripped of hosting the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations due to delays in the delivery of infrastructure, the Boko Haram insurgency and the Anglophone Crisis. On 8 January 2019, Egypt was chosen by the CAF Executive Committee as the host nation of the competition. The tournament was also moved from the original dates of 15 June – 13 July to 21 June – 19 July due to Ramadan.
