Ballantine’s True Music Accra Celebrates Pioneering Artists in Ghana

Some of Ghana’s hottest music stars including King Promise, Darkovibes, DJ Vyrusky, DJ MicSmith, and iPhone DJ thrilled an ecstatic crowd with live performances at the Ballantine’s True Music Accra held at the Carbon Night Club last weekend. The Glow in the Dark party that celebrated pioneering Ghanaian artists and DJs that “do it their way” was fueled with sounds from Africa and was attended by over 1200 attendees including musicians and media personalities Ova Wise, Efya, Nana Fofie, Efia Odo, Moesha Buduong, Official Kwame, and BrownBerry.

“For years, Ballantine’s has celebrated authentic and pioneering artists who have stayed true to their passion, True Music. We are excited to create a platform for music lovers and True Artists to come together and share their art while enjoying Ballantine’s,” said Sarah Haman, Brand Manager of Premium Brands at Pernod Ricard Ghana.

True Music Accra kicked off with tattoo artists and Ballantine’s hostesses who painted guest’s faces and bodies with glow paints and escorted them to the dance floor and avant-garde photo booths at various corners of the club for photo opportunities. MC Kojo Manuel stirred the crowd with a special homage to Sarkodie for winning International Flow Act at the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards after an impressive performance from rapper Yaw Bema. DJs for the evening, DJ MicSmith, DJ Vyrusky, and iPhone DJ kept the crowd on the dance floor with best mixes of Afrobeats, Hip-hop, Highlife and Dancehall.

King Promise took on to the stage with his signature dark shades singing R&B and Afrobeats hits off his ‘As Promised’ Album including “Bra”, “Tokyo” and “Commando”. Darkovibes climaxed the night and brandished his smooth vocals and hype rhymes on songs such as “Kpo KeKe”, “Stay Woke” and “Bless Me”. He was later joined on stage with La Meme Gang member, $pacely, and they performed together.

“Music is one of the ways where different people from different communities can come together and share the bond of oneness. I am grateful for the unique platform given to me by Ballantine’s True Music Africa to share my music in an unfiltered way,” said King Promise, Ghanaian highlife and Afrobeats singer-songwriter.

Ballantine’s and Boiler Room launched True Music Africa in Ghana earlier this year with a live-streamed party broadcast to more than 17 million people around the world featuring epic performances from exciting talents in Ghana’s buzzing hip-hop, rap, trap and R&B scenes.

The minister in charge of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts eulogized the organizers of the prestigious awards for celebrating a decade since the inception of the firm, and gave them her good wishes for this year's sequel. She acknowledged their efforts through the years, encouraging them to continue the amazing work they have been doing in the music industry.

Madam Barbara Oteng Gyasi, also praised the organizers for their role in seeing to it that the youth of Ghana have a 'home' to call their own, showing a sign of gratitude to them, for supporting the tourism sphere of Ghana. However, she promised that she would be present on the night with her team to have a 'good time', and also pledging her unflinching support to the event.

The organizers on their path expressed their sincere joy to the Minister and promised to continue giving their best, all the time - for the good of Ghana.

Celebrating a decade since its inception, South African multinational mobile telecommunications company MTN Group Limited, formerly M-Cell, in collaboration with Ghana’s number one urban entertainment and music video channel, 4syte TV launched the 2019 edition of certified music video recognition scheme, MTN 4Syte Tv Music Video Awards (MVAS)

The awards event is slated for November 2019 and will be hosted at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra. The launch was held at the MTN Head office, Ridge, Accra. 4syte TV over the years since the installment of the award scheme has encouraged more artistes to invest heavily in the production of their music videos.

This has resulted in the delivery of excellent videos by some of these artistes and has as such raised the bar in the scope of music videos in the country. The awards event is to reward creativity in the production of music videos released between 2018 and 2019.

Slated for 7th December 2019 at Alliance Francaise in Accra, this year marks the fourth edition of the Worla Festival of Arts & Music (WORLAFEST) - an annual all day music and arts event held in Accra-Ghana. The name itself “Worla” means “the creator”. The festival is also an extension of the artistic facets of Ghanaian musician Worlasi, who doubles as a painter & animator.

A highlight of this year’s edition will be Worlasi’s set during the concert. He’ll be performing some songs off his album ‘The Man & The God’. Also be on the lookout for art pieces from various artisans from across West Africa. Worlasi's abilities cut across music and figure painting.  Worlasi’s interest in music started while listening to radio, and sampling the beats of songs he felt didn’t quite meet high standards. His inspiration to do music comes from personal experiences and what goes on around him, which he translates into instrumentals and then to words.

Worlasi’s music has seen him share the stage with some of Ghana’s finest musical acts on platforms such as ACCRA.ALT’s Sabolai Radio, Dark Suburb’s awakening concert, Beatphreaks, and The Unheard Voices among others. He was also touted by BBC’s DJ Rita Ray as one of the artists to watch in 2017.
