Africa Youth Awards, the continent’s most coveted award for young people has announced nominees for the 5th edition of the award.
The nominees which features 60 young people across 5 categories were selected from 23 African countries for their outstanding works in diverse fields.
Out of the 23 countries nominated, Kenya leads with 7 nominees whiles Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa also follow with 6 nominees each.
Speaking about this year’s edition, Prince Akpah, President & co-founder of Africa Youth Awards, noted that in commemoration of the 5 years anniversary of the awards, co-founders of the award decided to only release 5 categories to be contested for across the continent.
Also speaking about the next phase of the awards, Prince Akpah noted that, the awards from next year would be modelled to promote the African Union’s Agenda 2063 as it takes turn to award young individuals working on promoting the African Union’s agenda.
Africa Youth Awards has over the years recognized the works of young Africans and continues to expose their works to the world. Previous recipient of the award include: Dr. Ahmed Musa, Sara Nana Yeboah, Ashish Thakkar, Aya Chebbi, etc.
Africa Youth Awards is also noted for its prestigious ranking of the 100 Most Influential Young Africans which has received publication on various international media platforms across the world.
Public voting for the awards is opened via www.africayouthawards.org/vote and will end on December 26th ahead of the winners announcement on January 1st 2019.

Afrochella Renovates School For Orphans
As part of efforts to support Ghana in achieving its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the area of education, Afrochella, an afro music, and cultural festival, is renovating the Genesis Academy.The Genesis Academy is a school for the orphanage.It is located in Jamestown, a suburb of Ghana’s capital, Accra.Spokesperson of Afrochella, Gifty Boakye, told DGN Online in an interview that the renovation would lead to the provision of a “solid roof on the school’s building.”According to her, Afrochella has raised about GH¢ 28,000 for the renovation.
She hinted that additionally, Afrochella would provide about 150 backpacks, books, crayons, pens and papers to pupils of the Genesis Academy.In 2018, Afrochella supported WaterAid Ghana with an amount of GH¢ 10,000 as part of its charity initiatives.Ms. Boakye said this year, Afrochella is interested in supporting the Ghanaian Government’s agenda of providing quality education for all its citizens. She said to develop, it was key for Ghana to achieve the SDGs, noting that there was the need for all stakeholders to support the state in providing quality education.

Ballantine’s True Music Accra Celebrates Pioneering Artists in Ghana
Some of Ghana's hottest music stars including King Promise, Darkovibes, DJ Vyrusky, DJ MicSmith, and iPhone DJ thrilled an ecstatic crowd with live performances at the Ballantine's True Music Accra held at the Carbon Night Club last weekend. The Glow in the Dark party that celebrated pioneering Ghanaian artists and DJs that "do it their way" was fueled with sounds from Africa and was attended by over 1200 attendees including musicians and media personalities Ova Wise, Efya, Nana Fofie, Efia Odo, Moesha Buduong, Official Kwame, and BrownBerry.

MC Kojo Manuel stirred the crowd with a special homage to Sarkodie for winning International Flow Act at the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards after an impressive performance from rapper Yaw Bema. DJs for the evening, DJ MicSmith, DJ Vyrusky, and iPhone DJ kept the crowd on the dance floor with best mixes of Afrobeats, Hip-hop, Highlife and Dancehall.
King Promise took on to the stage with his signature dark shades singing R&B and Afrobeats hits off his 'As Promised' Album including "Bra", "Tokyo" and "Commando". Darkovibes climaxed the night and brandished his smooth vocals and hype rhymes on songs such as "Kpo KeKe", "Stay Woke" and "Bless Me". He was later joined on stage with La Meme Gang member, $pacely, and they performed together.
